Before entering federal politics, Terry Sheehan had a career in economic development and local government. He worked as an employment and training consultant for the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services and later for the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. He also served as a trustee for the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board for four terms. Sheehan was also elected to the Sault Ste. Marie City Council, where he served two terms before being elected as a Member of Parliament in 2015.
